Classroom Notes

Greetings!

The kids were excited to hear news of the outdoor science camp change to OMSI’s Camp Namanu on April 20, 21, and 22.  Thank you for completing and returning the paperwork so quickly.  That really helps me submit all necessary forms to the camp today.  A big thank you to Tracy in the office, too!  I have always taken kids on an overnight campout.  I think we’ll have a great time!

Speaking of trips, you are welcome to join us for a Reed College campus tour field trip on Wednesday, April 29th sponsored by the good folks at Reed Science Outreach. They will show us some chemistry demonstrations, we’ll get a tour of the nuclear reactor, check out some of the biology labs, and get a campus and dorm tour. We will leave Lewis at 9:00 a.m. and return after eating lunch on the campus. We should be back to Lewis around 1:30. Here’s the sign-up: bit.ly/reed-campus-tour-15

The first of the English language arts portions of the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium test consumed much of our Tuesday morning.  I have no way of knowing how they scored; results won’t be available for months, but I do know how they approached the task.  They were serious.  They were focused.  They used the strategies we had talked about in the week preceding the test.  The math test is slated for Tuesday, April 28th.  The English language arts performance task will be carried out over multiple days in May.
