Classroom Notes

We had an absolutely delightful time at outdoor science camp at OMSI’s Camp Namanu last week.  The weather was fantastic.  We hiked.  We did nature activities.  We had a lovely campfire and songs.  All in all, it was an outstanding outing.  I hope you heard the stories.  Here are some photos from camp.  Back at school, kids shared their favorite episodes from camp through a creative dramatics activity called freeze frame.  They also began writing a science camp essay to document their favorite episodes from camp.  Please send outdoor science camp money this week with checks made out to Lewis Elementary School.

We are getting ready for Lewis Art Night on Thursday, May 7th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.  Speaking of art, you are welcome to join us for a walking field trip on the morning of Thursday, May 7th to Reed College’s Cooley Gallery to investigate the work of photographer Emil Otto HoppĂ©, an important figure in portrait photography in the early- to mid-20th century.  Education Outreach Coordinator Gregory MacNaughton will visit our class a few days before we go to Reed to give us a better understanding of what we will see.  We will leave Lewis at 9:00 and return by 11:30.  Please sign up to join us!
