Classroom Notes

Greetings…and Happy New Year!

Team 20 returned on Wednesday well rested and ready to go.  The kids were all smiles (most of them anyway) and filled with stories from winter vacation.  As a matter of fact, we spent most of Wednesday morning sharing stories using a creative dramatics activity called “freeze frame.”  Kids practiced with their teammates in small groups and then performed their freeze frame narratives.  My stories were mainly about enjoying lots of play time with Norah Lee and Twyla.  All in all, the kids did an excellent job settling into routines during the week and, to no one’s surprise, it turned out to be a very busy and productive week!

This week had several beginnings.  Kids began planning their winter vacation essay using a story map and webs, then conferencing with other kids and myself to revise and add to their plans, and writing a rough draft on their Chromebooks.  I began reading The Magician’s Elephant by Kate DiCamillo to the kids.  Kids began making pen and watercolor name cards for the hallway with art supplies that were funded last year by the Lewis PTA.

In other news, kids programmed Spheros during technology.  Kids were lunch helpers on Tuesday.  We met with our reading buddiesin Mrs. Logue’s first grade before winter break.  Oh, and be sure to check out the figure drawing artwork that the kids completed with Ms. Gina, which is now on display on the bulletin boards in the dip.

And, in general, it is safe to say that we are back in full stride!
