Classroom Notes

We have had another busy and productive week.  Here’s your update.

Fourth grade classrooms will be leading Lewis’s participation in Oregon Food Bank’s annual food drive, called Project Second Wind.  Team 20 has begun making signs that feature a collection of the foods that are most wanted by the food bank and will be displayed around Lewis to advertise the food drive, which runs from February 29th to March 4th.  Here is more information about the food drive, including a list of most wanted foods.

Having created a portfolio of photo stories, kids chose their best rough draft and began revising it independently and with a teammate, using a revising checklist we created as a team.

Kids made artworks by creating an interaction between their hand and a drawing. They used their Chromebook cameras to take the photos. Their work is currently on display on the board across from the cafeteria and on our classroom blog.

Kids learned about rocks, weathering, and soil during Reed Science.  Ms. Tori has been sharing Oregon Reader’s Choice nominees during library.  Kids practiced square dancing for last Friday’s Lewis Family Dance during music with Mr. Jamesbarry.  Kids are doing stations activities with Ms. Layman that include jumping and running during PE.

Whitney Houston, Cleopatra, Babe Ruth, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and Boudica were spotted in room 20 during last Wednesday’s Historical Character Day.

Last, but not least, we will be celebrating Read Across America Day on Wednesday, March 2nd, with a mini read-a-thon from 12:30 to 2:00.  Family is welcome to join us.  Speaking of reading, a reminder that library books are due each Wednesday.
