Classroom Notes

Hard to believe isn’t it?  It doesn’t seem that long ago that the school year was just beginning and now…we’re three quarters through!  Thursday, April 7th, did indeed mark the end of the third quarter!  As I have written all year long, we have come a long way in the last seven months.  Each member of Team 20 has much of which to be proud!

This week, kids continued writing letters for the Write_On Challenge, worked on the procedure section of their survey articles, used Makey Makey while coding in Scratch during technology with Mr. Jamesbarry, had a go with Little Bits during media with Ms. Cyndi, learned about the Oregon Trail, visited the Oregon Historical Society, and explored magnetic forces by using accelerators during Reed Science.

The first of the English language arts portions of the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium test consumed much of our Monday morning.  I have no way of knowing how they scored; results won’t be available for months, but I do know how they approached the task.  They were serious.  They were focused.  They used the strategies we had talked about in the week preceding the test.  Testing will continue during most mornings this month.  Kids who have opted out will be working on some independent activities during our testing time.

Lastly, our next field trip is scheduled for Wednesday, May 4th. We will visit the Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center to learn more about Oregon history related to the story of people of Japanese descent before, during, and after World War II.  Please return the field trip forms on or before Wednesday, April 20th.
